Xabier Iturbe appointed as the Euskaltel Group's new non-executive chairperson
Derio, 29 October 2019 The Euskaltel Group's Board of Directors met today and unanimously appointed Xabier Iturbe Otaegi to the position of non-executive chairperson of the Group, as proposed by the Appointments and Remunerations Committee. He takes over from Alberto García Erauzkin, who has been in the role since 2011.
Xabier Iturbe (Pasaia-Gipuzkoa, 1963) has a degree in Economics and Business Studies from Deusto University and an MBA with a finance speciality from the Stern School of Business at New York University. He has held management positions in leading companies in both the telecommunications and finance industries and for more than 10 years he has been a member of various boards of directors and has sat on the governing bodies of several foundations.
The Group's new chairperson has already held several senior roles within Euskaltel: finance manager (1998-2000) and head of finance and control (2000-2008), so he understands the company's structure and relationships with shareholders and investors.
He was previously appointed to the role of chairperson of Kutxa (2008-2014) and first vice-chairperson of Kutxabank S.A. (from 2012 to the present). At the same time (from 2014 to 2016), he was chair of the Kutxa Banking Foundation.
His knowledge of the Basque Country's business and institutional fabric and his outstanding skills as a manager and leader of highly specialised teams have led Xabier Iturbe to be selected by Euskaltel's Appointments and Remunerations Committee, complying with best practice in corporate governance.
The Euskaltel Group's new chairperson will bring his experience and long-term strategic vision, whilst safeguarding the interests of stakeholders.
Alberto García Erauzkin held the position of executive chairperson of Euskaltel from 2011 to the present. He previously held the roles of Euskaltel's managing director (2000-2011) and head of finance (1998-2000).
The Board of Directors would like to thank Alberto García Erauzkin for his dedication and essential contribution to the Euskaltel project over the past 21 years, during which time he has led the company from different positions of responsibility.
