Euskaltel launches the first group-wide application enabling access to loads of free TV content from any mobile device

  • Euskaltel, R and Telecable customers will be able to see TV from any device over a single app, to access TV with more function and content.
  • Designed by the Euskaltel Group, this is a solid, scaled platform for the purpose of adding functions in the future.
  • Through the app, customers may see loads of on-demand content free of charge, in addition to live TV.
  • From the app, users will be able to program recordings to view afterwards from any device or from the decoder - and vice-versa - while being able to recover any program from the last 7 days.
  • Euskaltel, R and Telecable thus strengthen their position in TV to complete the best convergent offer on the market - TV, broadband, mobile and landlines.
  • This is a new step marked out by the Group's new sales strategy roadmap to continue growing on the market, integrating services while at the same time maintaining brands in their respective territories.

Bilbao, December 19, 2019. The Euskaltel Group has taken a new step in its strategy of offering its customers the best quality in its convergent telecommunications services by following the plans laid out in the new Group roadmap.

To this end, the Euskaltel Group has launched the first joint application for all the clients of Euskaltel, R and Telecable, which will enable the users of the leading convergent telecoms operator in the north to access loads of on-demand TV content, including all types of genres free of charge.

Each brand will maintain its services as these are currently known - Edonon in Euskaltel, TEDI in Telecable and TV Conmigo in R - except that now, on a single platform that improves service, it is more solid, scalable and prepared for future functions. Thanks to this application, all TV users of Euskaltel, R and Telecable will be able to access faster TV with more user programming functions and loads of content of all sorts - cinema, series, documentaries, children's programs, etc.

Likewise, Euskaltel, R and Telecable TV clients will have access to live TV programs and theme channels over the app, and also be able to program recordings for viewing later, from any device or from the decoder - and vice-versa - apart from being able to recover any program from the last 7 days, which they may access from Android, iOs or the website version.

Over 366,000 clients have access to the app

More than 366,000 Euskaltel Group clients with decoders will have access to the TV service from the new app, meaning that 84% of paying Euskaltel, R and Telecable TV clients will be able to access TV from any device.

This new Euskaltel service is its response to TV consumer needs in its aim to offer products and services of value to all its clients. TV consumer habits have changed substantially over the last few years. TV consumption outside the home from other devices continues to gain ground, as illustrated by the fact that 80% of customers with 4K decoders consume on-demand content, and that users spend an average of 33 minutes per session each time they view content from apps on any device.

This new culture of TV use serves as backdrop to the evolution of continuous growth of the Group portfolio of clients with Android TV decoders, to the point where currently, over 140,000 Group clients avail of 4K home decoders.

Record data in pay TV use

According to the CNMC report on the first quarter of 2019, pay TV has reached a record high in Spain, with a 37% penetration in homes. That same quarter, Euskaltel grew 2.3% in terms of TV subscribers as compared with the previous quarter.

As regards TV viewer consumption, over 4.8 million homes in Spain - i.e., 26% of Spanish homes - access content platforms such as Netflix or HBO, a segment that continues to grow, since new players such as Mitele Plus, the Mediaset soccer pay platform, continue to join the market, and the arrival of Disney+ in Spain in the spring of 2020 is imminent, along with the upcoming arrival of Warner Media's HBO Max.

In sum, the Euskaltel Group - the operator best-rated by its own clients - continues to expand its catalog of available content, launching the most complete offer existing on the market.

It must be remembered that the company was the first operator in Spain to introduce Android 4K TV decoders in 2017, facilitating an open platform that enabled the rapid inclusion of OTT content and services since its launching.
