Taking stock of the free access to the Edonon TV service by customers and non-customers admitted to hospital during the health crisis

Over 1,000 people in hospital are already benefiting from Euskaltel's free online TV platform

  • This service lets patients enjoy over 50 channels for free, including thousands of on-demand programmes and the option of recording shows to watch them later.
  • Average TV consumption has increased significantly to 5.4 hours per day, i.e., 45% more than usual.
  • Time spent watching live TV content rose by 47% (to 4.5 hours a day) and time spent watching on-demand content increased by 32%.
  • Time spent watching children's content on TV has increased by 54% and family film consumption grew by 55%.
  • Euskaltel aims to ensure a top quality service while continuing to offer its standard services during the COVID-19 state of emergency.
  • The operator has significantly increased the level of service offered to customers in order to help them overcome isolation measures.

Bilbao, 15 April 2020. After the first 15 days of free access to Edonon, Euskaltel's online TV platform, around 1,000 patients have activated the service. Each person who registers, i.e. each activation, can enjoy the TV platform on up to 5 devices (mobile phone, tablet, PC). The service launched by Euskaltel on 27 March has therefore been much appreciated by the people who need it most, both customers and non-customers, who unfortunately have to spend these days in hospital and can now access the operator's best TV content.

Euskaltel opened up its Total TV service on Edonon, its online TV platform, giving free access to all users who need it while the health crisis lasts.

The Total TV service comprises over 50 channels, including thousands of on-demand programmes, and also provides the option of recording shows to watch them later. The service works the same way as for Euskaltel customers: you have to download the mobile app, available for android and iOS, and log in, following the activation instructions.

There is also a web version, available on www.euskaltel.com, where users should access the Edonon section. On both Wi-Fi and mobile networks, the online TV service aims to accompany and help those people in hospital, making these difficult moments more manageable.

Increased TV use

Euskaltel continues working to launch useful initiatives aimed at different groups that need to be connected and enjoy entertainment as a way of overcoming confinement and for people who are self-isolating at home as they have symptoms or have the disease.

The current scenario has seen TV consumption increase significantly. Euskaltel has found that, during confinement, average TV use is 5.4 hours a day, i.e. 45% more than usual. Moreover, time spent watching live TV content rose by 47% (to 4.5 hours a day) and time spent watching on-demand content increased by 32% compared to February. Time spent watching children's content on TV also increased by 54% while family film consumption grew 55%.

As noted in previous communications, bearing in mind that usage patterns during this period are greater than normal, Euskaltel and the other operators continue to recommend the following guidelines to ensure a good service experience:

- Use the landline for voice calls, given that we are at home.

- Use the home Wi-Fi network to access the Internet.

- Use shared tools (Skype, Teams, Whatsapp, etc.) for voice calls.

- Avoid sending large files and send links instead.

- Download large files at off-peak times.

- Use audio-conferencing instead of video-conferencing.
