The Euskaltel Group reaches an agreement with Orange to provide fibre services to at least an additional 1.8 million homes
Bilbao, 7 July 2020. The Euskaltel Group has signed an agreement with Orange to use bitstream to access at least 1.8 million of the 3 million homes included in Orange's additional fibre deployment plans over the coming years. These deployments will be completed before the end of 2023.
This arrangement is a new step forward in the agreements signed with Orange announced on 13 December 2019, when the company reported that it had renewed and improved its wholesale agreements with the company, both for fixed and mobile networks, improving the terms and extending the length of previous agreements.
By doing this, the Euskaltel Group expands its national fibre coverage using the Orange network.
On 22 April 2020, in its quarterly results, the Euskaltel Group reported that it already covers 13.5 million homes nationwide, using its own network and by accessing third-party networks (including Orange). This enables the Group to meet its objective of providing coverage to 18 million homes by the end of the second quarter of 2020.
National network coverage is a key asset in the Euskaltel Group's expansion plans at national level, as announced at the Business Plan 2020-2025 presentation on 10 March 2020. On 20 May 2020, the Group announced the launch of its new brand, Virgin telco, through which it will undertake this new national expansion.
