The first surf-themed TV channel so that viewers can enjoy the waves from home

Euskaltel expands its home entertainment offering by including the Surf Channel

  • This adds to the various initiatives launched by the operator to increase its entertainment offering during confinement.
  • The new channel, which starts broadcasting in Euskaltel today, 14 April, can be watched by its TV service subscribers on channels 7 and 63.
  • The Basque telecommunications operator has also prepared a special surfing programme with exclusive content available on Replayteka, its on-demand video service.

Bilbao, 14 April 2020. As of today, 14 April, Euskaltel adds a new TV channel to its offering: The Surf Channel is the first TV channel dedicated to surfing, skating, snowboarding and similar sports. The new TV channel's programmes can be seen on Euskaltel's channel 63 and it adds to the company?s very broad content offering, with over 100 channels already broadcast by the operator.

This new channel has been added in the middle of the COVID 19 crisis, which has left many surfers out of the water and away from national and international competitions also. This 24-hour service, including documentaries, films, sports and current affairs shows will accompany all those in confinement.

Available and with exclusive content on Replayteka

As part of the initiatives launched by the operator to provide more entertainment, all Euskaltel's TV customers will be able to access all Surf Channel content for free on channel 7.

The Basque telecommunications operator has also prepared special surfing programmes with exclusive content for its customers on Replayteka, its on-demand video service. This includes an entire selection of around twenty titles about surfing and everything related to it.

Free TV channels and online TV service for those in hospital

In the past few days, the operator has launched a number of initiatives to help customers, such as free family film channels, and the opening up of children's channels to all TV customers automatically without them having to do anything and regardless of the bundle under contract. The children's channels are Panda, Disney Junior, Baby TV, Nick and Nick Jr. To further help young people who are studying at home, Euskaltel has included the Special History Channel on its on-demand video platforms with over 25 history programmes that teach in an entertaining way, particularly aimed at students who are currently unable to attend school.

In addition to the free TV channels, the operator has opened up its full TV offering via Edonon, its online TV service, so that both customers and non-customers who unfortunately have to spend these days in hospital can access the best television content.

Users who need to have access to this application will be able to do so free of charge. Edonon, the online TV service, aims to help people in hospital, making these complicated days more bearable by providing access to over 50 channels, thousands of on-demand programmes and the option of recording content and watching it later.

Increased TV use

Euskaltel hopes that these measures will make leisure time easier for families, as evidence shows that the average time spent watching TV is currently 5.4 hours a day, i.e. 45% more than usual. Furthermore, time spent watching the live TV content offering rose 47% (to 4.5 hours a day) and time spent watching the on-demand content offering increased 32% compared to February.

Viewing of children's TV content also increased 54%. By opening up the children's channels, the Euskaltel Group is doing its bit to make the quarantine easier for kids. Time spent watching family films has also increased 55%.

Bearing in mind that usage patterns in the last 15 days are greater than normal, Euskaltel and the other operators continue to recommend the following guidelines to ensure a good service experience:

- Use the landline for voice calls, given that we are at home.

- Use the home Wi-Fi network to access the Internet.

- Use shared tools (Skype, Teams, Whatsapp, etc.) for voice calls.

- Avoid sending large files and send links instead.

- Download large files at off-peak times.

- Use audio-conferencing instead of video-conferencing.
